Ezri Konsa started his Premier League season in the worst possible way for Aston Villa against Newcastle United.
Aston Villa welcomed Eddie Howe’s men to Villa Park on Saturday, drawing 0-0 with minimal chances for the home side throughout.
After a slow first half, Konsa took centre-stage in the second half and was given a straight red card for a tug back on Anthony Gordon as he raced through on goal.
Konsa was far from happy with the decision, but left Craig Pawson with no choice.

Unai Emery will not be happy with the decision, but the Spaniard has been around long enough to accept that, and the ban coming.
The Premier League have immediately shared a statement on the incident.
Writing on X on its Match Centre account, they said: “The referee’s call of red card to Konsa for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) was checked and confirmed by VAR.”

Games that Konsa could miss
Thankfully, it may only be a one-game ban for Konsa.
If it were a violent conduct offence, it could have been three games, but the England international should only miss the trip to Brentford on 23 August in the Premier League.

With a good feeling around Villa Park before kick off ahead of the Premier League returning, including a new Ozzy Osbourne mural being revealed, it didn’t last long to disappear.
Emi Martinez will also return against Brentford, so it is a case of one in and one out for Emery, who will be desperate to get his first win on the board.
With European football secured and no Carabao Cup second round tie, all eyes are already on the Premier League again next week, with rest critical ahead of the trip to London.
