LaSalle bakery targeted in early-morning arson attack

A suspected arsonist smashed the window of a LaSalle bakery and set it on fire before fleeing in the early hours of Saturday, Montreal police say.

The city’s police arson squad is investigating the fire at Pâtisserie LaSalle, on Newman Blvd., near Lise St., according to Caroline Chèvrefils, a police spokesperson. 

The 911 calls initially came in shortly after 2 a.m. after a fire began spreading inside the business, Chèvrefils said.

Firefighters arrived and brought the blaze under control before it could reach adjoining businesses, she added. No one was injured. The building sustained only minor damage.

According to preliminary information, a suspect broke the window and set fire to the interior before fleeing the scene.

No arrests had been made.
