Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas haven’t officially confirmed their romance, but a snapshot of them holding hands should be enough to suggest that something is going on between them. While they appear to be enjoying each other’s company, relationship experts are chiming in with a warning.
The issues the Mission: Impossible star and Armas may face seem to stem from their 26-year age difference. Cruise is 63 years old, and she is 37 years old.

“One big hurdle that couples with large age gaps often fall into is a parent/child dynamic,” marriage and family therapist Sara Sloan told the Daily Mail. “In the beginning, the age gap can create excitement for the older one and safety for the younger one… until there’s a major conflict, and the younger one may feel like they’re rebelling against a parent.”

That dynamic could come into play, especially since Cruise is a major power player in Hollywood while his girlfriend is still rising through the ranks.
Amber Lee, CEO and Co-Founder of Select Date Society, explained to the U.K. media outlet, “In my experience, age-gap relationships of 20 years plus run the risk of fizzling out over time as we naturally slow down as we age… When Cruise is 83 and de Armas is 57, their lifestyles may not align.”
While those might be issues they face in the future, Cruise and de Armas are clearly in the honeymoon stage of their relationship. De Armas is reportedly convinced that she’s also the right partner for him at this stage of his life.

“Ana’s familiar with Tom’s history, but it doesn’t worry her,” a source told Star Magazine on Aug. 5. “It actually annoys her that people judge Tom by his exes, and she’s confident she’ll be able to keep him happier than they did.”
Cruise has some pretty famous exes, and most don’t seem to stay in touch with him after they break up. Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes have remained quite silent about their high-profile divorces from him (although threats from the Church of Scientology aren’t something anyone wants).
For now, Cruise and de Armas are taking things slowly on a personal level while they try and get funding for their supernatural thriller, Deeper. The project has reportedly been put on hold due to disagreements about the budget between Cruise and Warner Bros., but the time off gives Cruise and de Armas’ relationship time to blossom.
