Liverpool have no plans to sell Cody Gakpo, despite Tottenham expressing their interest in the 27-year-old Netherlands forward.
Gakpo has four years left on his deal and Liverpool would not sanction a move without a direct replacement – although they have been linked with Bradley Barcola this summer, and the PSG star will not come cheap.
Spurs have also been linked with Manchester City forward Savinho, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to improve Tottenham’s attacking options.

Bruno Guimaraes departure could leave Newcastle in freefall
As captain, Bruno Guimaraes lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley in March last year – the Magpies’ first major domestic trophy in 70 years – having established himself as a talisman for fans who dared to believe once again.
But Alexander Isak’s controversial departure for Liverpool last season sparked something of a decline, and Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Howe himself have since departed this summer to leave the club in a state of flux.
Guimaraes’ departure would blow another sizeable hole in the squad and leave the new head coach – German Matthias Jaissle has been with the players since the weekend, but is yet to be formally announced – with a major task to mould together a new-look side before the season’s opener against Liverpool on August 23.

Trabzonspor confirm Salah talks
Question marks over Mohamed Salah’s next club could be about to disappear after Turkish side Trabzonspor confirmed that talks over a deal with the Egyptian had begun.
The winger has not landed on a new team since ending his glory-laden spell with Liverpool at the end of last season.
“Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of professional footballer Mohamed Salah to our club,” Trabzonspor posted on X.

Arsenal close in on Guimaraes with ‘agreement’ reached
Here’s more on today’s top story: Arsenal’s move for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is finally nearing completion.
The Gunners are confident of finally singing the 28-year-old midfielder, whose future has been the subject of frenzied speculation for weeks ever since it emerged that he had indicated that he wanted to leave Tyneside for the Emirates Stadium.
Guimaraes reported for duty at Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga in Spain on Monday, just hours after Newcastle rejected an opening bid from Arsenal.
It now appears that significant progress has been made with the Premier League champions closing in on a deal which would see them finally capture a man they have long coveted.
Newcastle have known for months that they might have to make a decision over a player they did not want to sell, while holding a valuation – understood to be in the region of £80m – at which business might have to be done.
David Ornstein reported earlier that Arsenal are nearing “total agreement” with Newcastle. The Magpies had rejected Arsenal’s first bid out of hand.

Chelsea are close to signing a replacement for Marc Cucurella in Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria.
Xabi Alonso helped identify the Spaniard, who is 28. He is set to be Chelsea’s 10th signing of the transfer window.

Done deal! Ipswich sign Burnley forward Florentino Luis
Ipswich Town have signed midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley on a five-year deal, with reports indicating a £16m fee for the 26-year-old.
Florentino joined Burnley on loan from Benfica last season. The move was made permanent at the end of the campaign due to an obligation to buy.

Tottenham distance themselves from Nicolas Jackson
Tottenham have distanced themselves with reports linking the club for a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Jackson, 25, has returned from a season-long loan at Bayern Munich and is available for another move this summer.
Spurs have already spent £237m this summer and although they have not ruled out a move for another attacker – with Cody Gakpo and Savinho linked – there will be no move for Jackson.

Bruno Guimaraes: Where could he play for Arsenal?
Bruno Guimaraes’ versatility is key for Arsenal, particularly if Mikel Arteta plans to rotate Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi more this season than he did last campaign as well as further integrating Myles Lewis-Skelly as a midfielder rather than a full-back.
Guimaraes would be able to slot into the deepest of Arsenal’s three midfield roles, in the No 6, with Rice pushing further forward. Or, if Rice is rested, Guimaraes can push forward in the role of No 8 with Zubimendi or Lewis-Skelly anchoring.
Arsenal fans may not see it too often over the first half of the season, but a combination of Guimaraes and Rice – with either Martin Odegaard or Eberechi Eze deployed at No 10 – would potentially be a mouthwatering one.
On paper, Guimaraes and Rice do share a lot of the same strengths, they win back possession and progress the ball through midfield, but they compliment each other nicely too: while Rice is pure power and legs, Guimaraes brings incision and range.
