Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi is facing calls to brief parliament on negotiations with the United States, with lawmaker Kamran Ghazanfari saying most MPs have not been informed about the details. Araghchi has discussed the talks with parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, but the information was not shared more broadly, Ghazanfari told Iran-based website Didban Iran.
“This issue should be raised through a formal question to the foreign minister,” Ghazanfari said, adding that several lawmakers had begun the process of formally questioning Araghchi.
The submissions must still clear parliamentary procedures before being placed on the agenda, Iran International reported. Asked whether Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is also Iran’s top negotiator, could influence the process, Ghazanfari said it remained unclear, noting Ghalibaf’s support for President Masoud Pezeshkian’s government.
