The Commanders are reportedly set to sign veteran receiver Stefon Diggs to a one-year contract, a league source confirmed to Hogs Haven. That will bring the DMV native and University of Maryland product back home.
The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala was first to report the news.
While reports of Diggs becoming a Commanders are widespread, the team has not announced the news and won’t until a contract is formally signed.
This is a huge move that significantly upgrades the Commanders offense. Diggs will step right in as the Commanders’ No. 2 receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, adding depth and dynamic playmaking ability to the receiver corps.
Diggs has a long track record of success in the NFL, with at least 1,000 receiving yards in seven of his last eight seasons. Only a 2024 campaign in Houston, when he tore his ACL, snapped that streak. Diggs had 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in New England last year, despite playing just 55% of the snaps.
Diggs had an offseason of full health to find tip-top shape, which is has been showcasing regularly on social media. While he doesn’t have the speed of his younger days, Diggs is a friendly receiver who finds quick separation and remains an big-time playmaker in clutch moments.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels has plenty to work with in the passing game, with McLaurin and Diggs now as frontline, established veterans. Tight end Chig Okonkwo and third-round receiver Antonio Williams should also have significant roles, with solid depth behind them at both positions.
The No. 2 receiver spot was perceived to be the last spot to be addressed on a solid roster, and general manager Adam Peters has done it.
