TREMONTON, Utah (KUTV) — Tremonton City officials closed its city offices at noon on Aug. 18 and Box Elder County canceled its Draft Horse Show as the community plans to pause and come together in respect for the two officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty.
During this time, Box Elder County said a procession to honor the fallen officers will be held starting at about 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The processional is expected to go north on I-215 from Taylorsville before following I-15 and I-84 into Tremonton and process west along Main Street/Borgstrom Brothers Highway. It will then turn north onto 3rd East before continuing to the Rudd Funeral Home located at 1234 South Main Street in Garland. The processional will then continue to Allen’s Funeral Home located at 34 East Center Street in Logan by following Highway 30 onto Main Street.
Officials have the asked the community to line the procession route and hold flags to help honor the fallen officers.

The two officers were tragically killed while responding to a domestic violence incident at a home near 700 North and 200 East around 9 p.m. on Sunday evening. Police said upon arrival, the suspect came out of the residence with a gun and opened fire, striking and killing the officers.
A deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office and his service dog were also struck in the gunfire. The deputy has since been released from the hospital and is recovering in “fair” condition. The service dog remains at a veterinary clinic as a precaution.
“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those who serve and protect,” Tremonton Mayor Lyle Holmgren said in a statement. “We must unite – not in division, but in strength – to honor their sacrifice, support their families, and stand behind all who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.”
Holmgren said in the city and community will find ways to show its love, gratitude and respect in the coming days, weeks, and months.
One procession from Bear River Hospital was held earlier Monday morning that followed I-15 before arriving in Taylorsville.
While the Draft Horse Show has been canceled, Box Elder County spokesperson Lynnette Crockett said the County Fair will still go on as planned.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of our fallen officers, and we thank our community for joining us in this solemn moment of unity and respect,” said Crockett in a media release.
The suspect, who has not been identified, has been taken into custody and booked into the Box Elder County Jail on aggravated murder charges.
