Huge outpouring of support for Charleville woman following life-changing accident in Spain

THE family of Charleville woman, Carol Callaghan, have expressed their gratitude after an incredible outpouring of support in the wake of a life-changing accident in Spain.

Carol was on holiday in Alicante with friends when she was seriously injured while out shopping. She remains in hospital in Spain, and the extent of her injuries means she will require long-term rehabilitation and specialist care.

Carol’s loved ones set up a GoFundMe to help fly her safely home on an air ambulance with a medical team as her travel insurance has refused to cover the cost of getting her home for the treatment she urgently needs.

The fundraiser has seen an extraordinary wave of generosity from the local community. To date, the GoFundMe has raised €102,824, which will go directly towards: The cost of the medical flight to bring Carol home, her rehabilitation and recovery and any ongoing care and support she will need on this journey.

The GoFundMe noted: “Carol and our family face an incredibly tough road ahead, but being back home in Ireland, surrounded by loved ones, is the first step in giving her the best chance at recovery.”

Carol’s employer, Holy Family School in Cork offered their support saying: “Carol is such a treasured colleague and a loving friend to all of us in Holy Family School, who has suffered a life-changing accident, while on holiday in Spain. Through her care and compassion, she has made a lasting difference in the lives of those around her.”
