Classes at LaSalle College will remain suspended until the school comes to an agreement with the government of Quebec, its director general said Monday.
The private, not-for-profit college informed the public Monday morning it would indefinitely suspend classes, due to begin on Thursday, because it is facing a $30 million fine for non-compliance with the new language law, known as Bill 96.
Quebec’s Department of Higher Education has said the college surpassed its quota of 716 English-program students for the 2023-24 academic year, resulting in an $8.78-million fine, and went 1,066 students over its 2024-25 quota, leading to an additional $21.11-million penalty.
