TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KOAA) — Two Colorado State Patrol troopers were shot and wounded after a man opened fire during a traffic stop west of Woodland Park on Tuesday morning. Authorities shot and killed the suspect hours after he fled on foot.

The two troopers were able to drive themselves to a hospital for treatment, according to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not released their conditions.

Authorities said the shooting happened around 7:15 a.m. on Highway 24 near Piney Point Lane. The suspect was driving a blue Subaru Impreza hatchback before fleeing the stop. Investigators have not said why the vehicle was stopped.
After the shooting, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and was believed to be on foot in the Westwood Lakes and Woodland West areas. A shelter-in-place order was issued for the Westwood Lakes subdivision but was lifted shortly before 10 a.m.
Investigators later confirmed the suspect was shot and killed. Investigators said the suspect was struck multiple times, but no additional details about the shooting were immediately released.

Authorities have not revealed the suspect’s identity or possible motive.
