A San Jose police officer was in critical but stable condition late Tuesday at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center after being shot by an armed robbery suspect earlier in the afternoon, according to police.
The shooting occurred in the area of Lick Avenue and Goodyear Street. An advisor to San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said the mayor planned to visit the officer at the hospital, and his office later indicated that the visit took place.
While law enforcement agencies have not released an official statement regarding the condition of any officers or suspects involved, sources told NBC Bay Area that an officer was down and a suspect was neutralized.
The injured officer was rushed to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment Tuesday evening.
