UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey announced that the British government will continue to exert economic pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran alongside the United States and other international partners, while taking necessary action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and counter “dangerous Iranian activities.”

In a statement issued on August 25, Healey highlighted that the British government has imposed more than 240 sanctions against Iran since taking office, measures implemented in direct response to actions threatening the security of the UK and its citizens.

The Chancellor added that London remains firmly committed to preventing the Islamic Republic from exploiting the global economy or the British financial system to advance its nuclear program and destabilizing regional activities.

Expressing support for US efforts to reach a diplomatic resolution, Healey affirmed that the UK welcomes intensified pressure on the Islamic Republic, including participation in the US-led “Operation Economic Outcast.”

Healey emphasized that the UK will maintain close coordination with its allies to safeguard its national interests, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and confront what he characterized as Iran’s reckless regional conduct.

The UK Chancellor concluded by urging the Islamic Republic to halt its destabilizing operations across the region, specifically within the Strait of Hormuz, and engage in meaningful diplomatic negotiations.
