Milliman, Inc., a global actuarial and consulting firm, announced that 40 states have approved its AccuRate Fleet telematics risk scores for use. This regulatory milestone supports broader integration of telematics-based data in fleet insurance underwriting and risk management strategies.

AccuRate Fleet delivers usage-based insurance (UBI) scores that quantify risk using actual driving behavior. After just 20 days of activity, the system generates a score between 0 and 1,000, similar to a credit score. Built from more than one billion miles of commercial driving data, the score allows insurers to better assess exposure and improve pricing accuracy.

Bringing Telematics Deeper Into Fleet Underwriting

The scores are available to insurers through Milliman Appleseed, a platform that provides pre-filed, regulator-approved scoring models. With approval now covering 80% of the U.S. by population, insurers can use the scores for underwriting, customer segmentation, risk analysis and retention planning.

“We are thrilled to receive approval in 40 states for our AccuRate Fleet telematics risk scores,” said Peggy Brinkmann, principal and consulting actuary at Milliman. “This approval is a testament to the reliability and effectiveness of our telematics solutions in transforming fleet insurance underwriting. Our technology not only helps insurers better understand and manage risk but also rewards fleet operators who prioritize safe driving practices.”

Benefits for Insurers and Fleets

For insurers, AccuRate Fleet enables real-time insight into commercial driving risk. For fleets, the platform provides access to driver performance analytics, helping identify risky behaviors and guide targeted training. These tools not only promote safety but can also help reduce insurance premiums and improve operational efficiency.
