SELDOVIA, Alaska (KTUU) – Four adults died after a small plane crashed into Seldovia Slough Wednesday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers were notified of the crash at 1:18 p.m.
The agency dispatched a helicopter crew from Anchorage and sent troopers by boat from Anchor Point to reach the scene.
Troopers said the aircraft, a Piper PA-24, went down in the water and sank completely while en route to Seldovia from Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
Troopers were able to extract the bodies of four deceased adults from inside the plane at approximately 6:30 p.m., after the tide level dropped, according to DPS.
The plane was registered to Eric Middlebrook of Anchorage.
The bodies are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
Seldovia City Manager Heidi Geagel, who was on scene after the crash, confirmed the plane went down in the Seldovia Slough near the airport. She said she had no other information at this time.
