Tropical Storm Dolly forms in Atlantic, NHC says

Tropical Storm Dolly formed in the Atlantic on Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Dolly, previously designated Invest 96-L, is located about 1,555 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

The NHC said Dolly is expected to be a short-lived tropical storm. It is not expected to impact Florida.

Heavy rain from this system could begin to affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday. However, the NHC expects Dolly to degenerate into a tropical wave before it reaches the islands.

The system has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1007 mb, according to the NHC.

Dolly is now the fourth named storm of the Atlantic season. The name is pure coincidence to the death of music icon Dolly Parton earlier this week.
