I grew up at the end of the 20th century. Israel was free, the dopamine level was high, the future sparkled on the horizon. The working assumption was that from here on, everything would only get better. I enjoyed the freedom. I could decide where to live and with whom, what my occupation would be. I loved the luminous landscape of my kibbutz and the gritty streets of Tel Aviv. I had confidence and faith in the education, health, security and judicial systems.
