MBTA: Man dies after falling onto third rail at Forest Hills Station
BOSTON —
A man died Saturday after falling onto the electrified third rail at the MBTA Forest Hills Station, the agency confirmed.
The victim and another woman, both 19, entered the station Saturday just after 1 p.m., with both carrying flags representing Caribbean countries, according to Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan.
The woman appeared to lose her balance and fell on the platform, near the yellow warning strip, police said.
As the man tried to help her up, they both fell onto the tracks, with the victim landing on the electrified third rail.
The victim died from his injuries.
The woman was critically injured and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Orange Line was delayed up to 20 minutes, with shuttle buses later replacing service as a result of the incident.
Foul play is not suspected, MBTA Transit Police said.
The incident is under investigation.
