Sen. Collins says it’s clear Trump administration went into Iran war without clear plan

BIDDEFORD (WGME) – The Trump administration is warning Iran there will be consequences if its military keeps targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

On Sunday, U.S. Central Command said it struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, in an effort to prevent Iran from placing mines in the strait.

Iran retaliated by taking aim at U.S. facilities in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, but no damage was reported.

Meanwhile, Senator Susan Collins says she’s consistently been in favor of stopping the conflict until President Donald Trump gets Congressional approval, something he needs under the more than 50-year-old War Powers Resolution Act.

She also says it’s clear the President went into the conflict without much of a strategy.

“The President clearly did not have a well-thought-out plan for how to deal with Iran and to me, it was utterly predictable Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz. It’s a point of leverage that it has, and it did it during the Iran-Iraq War, so that should not have come as a surprise,” Collins said.
