Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy just made a bold confession about President Donald Trump and his intentions in Venezuela.
On the Sunday, August 30 episode of Fox & Friends Weekend, Campos-Duffy reacted to Trump’s deal with Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, the former VP under Nicolas Maduro, who was captured by U.S. forces during a January raid. (Trump called it “THE BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY” in an August 28 Truth Social post; it includes the development of 17 oil fields with an estimated 65 billion barrels of proven oil potential.)
The wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy admitted that she believed removing Maduro would free Venezuelans from communism. Campos-Duffy explained, “There’s a lot of people, maybe — and myself included, call me Pollyanna, call me an idealist, maybe I was a little too naive here – I thought the primary purpose of taking out Nicolas Maduro was because he was a communist dictator and we were actually going to allow the Venezuelan people to…”
“There were federal drug charges,” her co-host, Charlie Hurt, interrupted.
She replied, “Exactly. There was that. But also that we were going to liberate the Venezuelan people from their oppressors.” Additionally, she pointed out that reviews are “very mixed, mostly negative” among Venezuelans because they “don’t trust Delcy Rodríguez” and “really want elections.”
Since I try to call balls and strikes instead of echoing only one side, I notice when a cable host breaks the party line. Hard to find a CNN anchor who gives Trump credit for anything. Just as hard to find a Fox host who criticizes him.

Campos-Duffy explained, “I think that the president and Marco Rubio, until these elections happen, there will be a lot of questions not just in Venezuela, but in all of Latin America. And those who are about Latin America and freedom in Latin America, until there are elections, there will be a lot of questions about motivations here and whether the interests of the Venezuelan people are at hand.”
Still, she conceded, “That doesn’t mean that this deal is not, you know, good for America. It doesn’t mean that in the future, the Venezuelan people might very greatly benefit from it. But the will of the people is still not in place.”
Campos-Duffy also speculated that if an election did happen and Venezuelans were allowed to, Maria Corina Machado would win.
