Manchester United fans could be forgiven for not quite
knowing what to expect from transfer deadline day.
Most think the club should be trying to sign a left-back as
competition for Luke Shaw and make an addition in their striking department.
However, amid the flurry of activity yesterday, United were
absent from a large amount of speculation.
Joshua Zirkzee, the most likely senior player to leave, was
heavily linked to Serie A duo Fiorentina and Juventus, but it seems those exit
doors are closing, with Everton’s Beto joining Fiorentina and Newcastle’s Nick
Woltemade set for a medical with Juventus.
An unused substitute in both Premier League games so far,
the Netherlands forward will hope to secure a move, which could be the trigger
for someone to come into Old Trafford.
There has been lots of interest in youngster Harry Amass, United’s
only other orthodox left-back, but the 19-year-old has yet to be given
clearance to have a medical.
A number of young players; striker Chido Obi, midfielder
Jack Moorhouse, Wales youth international Gabriele Biancheri and Paraguay international
Diego Leon were not involved in yesterday’s Premier League 2 victory over
Leicester. It will be interesting to see how many of them are still United players
by the end of the day.
