WASHINGTON (TNND) — Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps chief Ahmad Vahidi vowed Thursday that those killed in a strike during a wedding in southern Iran would be avenged, as Tehran blamed the United States for what it called a war crime.
Iranian authorities said at least four people, including a child, were killed and 68 others were wounded in the attack. The strike happened Tuesday night during a wedding in Kuhestak, a coastal town in Sirik County in Hormozgan province along the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident came after the United States announced attacks on targets tied to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. A U.S. official said American forces had been conducting strikes in the vicinity and that U.S. Central Command would investigate the incident.
The U.S. did not directly address responsibility for the wedding strike. A CENTCOM spokesperson said the U.S. military does not target civilians.
Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance have been at war since Feb. 28, after a bombing campaign killed Iran’s supreme leader. An April ceasefire ended the initial period of heavy bombardment, but sporadic exchanges have continued, especially around the Strait of Hormuz.
