Israel said on Wednesday it would close the British consulate in occupied East Jerusalem after London announced sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli officials told Britain that diplomats working at the consulate will lose their diplomatic status within 30 days, the deadline to close the consulate. British officials assigned to a US-led Gaza coordination mission and diplomats based in Ramallah were also ordered to leave within seven days.
The measures came after Britain, France, Canada and other countries announced Tuesday that they would ban imports of goods and some services from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
