An IDF soldier stole three M-16 rifles from Shayetet 13 Navy SEALs during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, N12 News first reported on Thursday morning.

The IDF confirmed that it was launching an investigation into the incident.

“The IDF views any incident involving the theft of weaponry with great severity and acts decisively, along with Israel Police officers, to prevent such occurrences,” the military said.

“Following the incident, a joint investigation was launched by the Military Police’s Criminal Investigation Division and Israel Police officers,” the military added.

“The investigation’s findings will be submitted to the Military Advocate-General Corps for review upon completion,” the military stated.

Earlier this week, Israel Police announced that two people were arrested in Shfaram on suspicion of stealing a shoulder-fired MATADOR missile from the IDF during operations in northern Israel over the weekend.

Police transferred both suspects to the Galilee Region police station for questioning and expect to bring them before the court to extend their detention.
