John Eustace hopes Derby County’s late show at Burnley can be a “turning point” after admitting he was disappointed not to come away with a victory at Turf Moor.
Mo Fuseini rescued a point for Derby in stoppage time when he thundered in a terrific finish to cancel out Zeki Amdouni’s opener in the first half. Fuseini’s goal, his first since his deadline day move from Union Saint Gilloise, kept Burnley bottom of the table in what has been a miserable start to the campaign for the Clarets, who are coming up to a year without a home win in the league.
Eustace felt Derby had created some decent chances, and he said: “Obviously, I am happy with the point, but I’m disappointed that we didn’t get all three if I’m being greedy.
“I thought the whole game was there for us to defend properly, which we did for the majority of it, apart from the goal, and that is another soft one on our part. We limited Burnley to no opportunities at all, really.
“They had lots of possession, which didn’t hurt us, but I always felt we were a threat. We had two or three opportunities where maybe we could have scored.
“In the second half, when it opened up, we put on some really exciting attacking players, and I was happy with the efforts that we created then as well.
“If we had lost the game, that would have been really disappointing, but I’m delighted in the end to get a point.”
The goal which Derby conceded was the second successive week they have conceded from a corner and Eustace added: “It was a case of David Ozoh just switching off, but part of his development is learning. Games are won and lost on set pieces, which everyone knows and if we’d have lost today from that, it would have been a real kick in the teeth.
“In the last three games that we’ve lost, we haven’t deserved to lose the two home games, but we’ve done that by conceding soft goals on our part.
“I’m hoping today’s a turning point for us where we stick in the game, you keep doing what you believe is right, and you get your rewards in the end.”
