Iranian authorities have closed and sealed the French language centre in Tehran, the judiciary-affiliated news portal Mizan said on Sunday, citing a failure to obtain an operating licence despite repeated warnings.

Authorities also accused the language centre, which is affiliated with the French embassy, of abusing its status by supporting projects they said were directed against Iran’s Islamic culture and posed a threat to national security.

The centre was also accused of helping members of Iran’s elite establish networks and encouraging them to emigrate.

No independent evidence or precise details for these allegations were available.
