Dublin performer urges householders to get appliances serviced to avoid ‘silent killer’

Jazz singer and actor Honor Heffernan has urged people to be aware of so-called silent killers in their homes after statistics showed chimneys, flues, hot ashes and soot were the top causes of fires last year.
In 2003, Heffernan’s mother Breda and youngest sister Fiona died from carbon monoxide poisoning after a water heater malfunction at their home in Stoneybatter, Dublin.
