SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Two people are dead and another person is in critical condition after a shooting late Saturday night on South Bend’s northeast side.
According to police, officers were called around 11:25 p.m. to the 1300 block of Bissell Street on reports of a large fight. That call was then updated to a shooting.
Police said officers found three victims, 20-year-old Alaya Maez, 18-year-old Javon Hopper, and 22-year-old Geimisha Broadnax, with apparent gunshot wounds.
Maez and Hopper were both pronounced dead at the scene. Broadnax remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Their families have been notified.
This shooting happened just hours after a woman and a South Bend police officer were wounded by gunfire near Eddy Street Commons.
Police have not released any suspect information. The shooting remains under investigation.
