The Broncos are expected to be unchanged for this week’s game against the Knights but in a crushing blow, coach Michael Maguire has confirmed two big names are unlikely to return in 2025.

Speaking to Code Sports on Thursday, Maguire said he “can’t see” Ezra Mam or Selwyn Cobbo recovering in time for Brisbane’s finals push.

“They are working extremely hard to make sure they’re going to give themselves an opportunity, so we’ll wait and see what happens there, but their injuries are quite significant,” he said.

“At the end of the day I want to give them (Mam and Cobbo) hope – but I think it’s a complete long shot for those two guys.”

There was positive news on Adam Reynolds, however, with Maguire saying his star halfback was a hope of returning for Brisbane’s final game of the regular season against Melbourne.

“Reyno might be two weeks I’ve been told,” Maguire said.

Late Mail: Former Storm halfback Cooper Cronk believes the Bulldogs will make a late change in their backline. Enari Tuala struggled to contain the high-flying Daniel Tupou in last week’s loss to the Roosters and with Marcelo Montoya on the extended bench and firming for a return from neck surgery, according to The Daily Telegraph. “Marce” is looking good, he’s trained well all week and looks pretty good, so it will be nice to have him back,’’ Ciraldo said on Thursday. Cronk believes there is a strong chance the Bulldogs will make the switch given they would otherwise risk repeating last week’s result against Melbourne’s aerial specialist Xavier Coates. “There will be a change there. I don’t think Tuala will be on the right wing against Coates,” the premiership-winning halfback said on ‘Matty & Cronk’ earlier this week.
