A cordon remains in place in the Hamilton CBD this morning after a “serious incident” overnight, police say.

Emergency services were called to Alexandra St shortly after midnight.

Police did not provide any further information on what happened, aside from that it had been a “serious incident” and a scene examination was underway.

“Cordons are in place on Alexandra St, between Collingwood and Hood streets and there is a visible police presence in the area while a scene examination is carried out.

“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

“The cordon includes a car park, and anyone with a vehicle parked there is asked to make a report online, or by calling 105. Please use the reference number 250720/3051.

“Information will be released proactively when we are in a position to do so,” police said.
