Fox News abruptly ended its live broadcast of JD Vance’s campaign speech in Greensboro, North Carolina, while the vice president was still speaking. Anchor Sandra Smith cut away from the rally and told viewers that the network would return to the event “if he starts to make news.” Fox News then moved to other coverage instead of continuing to air Vance’s remarks.

Vance was speaking at the Koury Convention Center in support of Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley, who is running against Democrat and former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. The vice president was campaigning for Whatley ahead of the midterm elections and urging voters to support Republican candidates.

The broadcast was interrupted as Vance began criticizing Democratic candidates. He had reached the line, “The Democrat Party is running candidates for Congress, who called for–” when Fox News cut away from the speech.

Smith then explained the decision on air. “Alright, you have been listening to Vice President Vance talking to voters ahead of the midterms in battleground North Carolina. He’s in Greensboro this afternoon. We will bring you right back to this rally if he starts to make news,” she said.

According to The Daily Beast, Vance’s speech was expected to run for almost 30 minutes, but Fox News stopped its live coverage about eight minutes after he began speaking. The network did not return to the rally for the remainder of his address.
