East Baltimore bus crash leaves 16 hurt after stolen car chase, 4 juveniles inside
BALTIMORE —
At least 16 people were taken to area hospitals after a stolen vehicle struck an MTA bus Thursday afternoon in East Baltimore.
According to preliminary information from BPD Commissioner Richard Worley, officers received an alert about a stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle drove away and later struck the bus.
Officials said four juveniles were inside the stolen car, two of whom are in critical condition.
Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace said 14 medical units were initially called to the scene after a mass-casualty incident was declared. Of the 16 patients taken to area hospitals, “several” remain in critical or serious condition, but the injuries are non-life-threatening.
The majority of patients have minor injuries, Wallace said.
Officials said the MTA bus had 12 people inside, including the driver. The bus was a serving a CityLink GOLD route bound for Canton.
SKY 11 reported from over the crash scene on North Wolfe Street at East Oliver Street in Broadway East, several blocks north of Johns Hopkins Hospital.
SKY 11 video showed a vehicle with a damaged front end and airbags deployed. The Maryland Transit Administration bus ended up in a park field off the road.

Baltimore police said the incident remains under investigation. The investigation will include a review of police scanner audio and MTA bus surveillance footage.
