Jason Calacanis, an angel investor and Dotcom era startup founder, put out a cryptic social media post advising SpaceX and Meta to release “an iPhone competitor with no apps — just agents and optimized for local AI and privacy.”
His post on X included a screenshot of an iPhone dock showing just two apps: xAI’s Grok Bot and Meta’s Muse, two advanced AI agent systems designed to automate complex work tasks.
It’s not entirely clear what Calacanis is envisioning, but Meta has already waded into introducing hardware paired with its AI software.
This week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the Muse Charm, a pocket-watch-sized device that would have the Muse AI agent system included.
“We packed the whole Muse experience, including the whole real-time voice and avatar stack, into something that fits on a keychain and is always available to talk to,” Zuckerberg said at this year’s Meta Connect event.
If the gadget were to catch on, users would not need to access Muse via a smartphone from Apple or Google, potentially cutting into those companies’ profit margins. The Muse Charm is expected to roll out sometime in December.
