A falling tree struck and killed a 56-year-old man at the Cyprus Hills public housing development in Brooklyn Saturday, authorites said.
The tree was completely uprooted and fell during the nor’easter Saturday night.
Tenant association president James Alcivar told NY1 he heard a loud boom and sirens and knew something was wrong.
He said the victim was longtime NYCHA employee Leighton Brown.
“He was one of the best employees that we had here at Cyprus Hills Development. If you had work that needed to be done in your house, he was the guy to call,”Alcivar said. “He comes here dedicated. As you can see, this tragic accident, he was doing what he loved.”
The New York City Housing Authority released a statement, saying “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the NYCHA community.”
