When is an apology not an apology? On September 17, Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli posted on X what he presented as a quote from Herbert Kickl, leader of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ), taken from Kickl’s address to a meeting at the European Parliament: “I express my deep regret before this international audience and sincerely apologize to the Jewish citizens of Austria, to the victims and survivors of National Socialism, to their descendants and to the Jewish people.”
