Indianola crash kills 17-year-old pedestrian, police say
INDIANOLA, Iowa —
An Indianola juvenile died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday evening, police said.
Indianola police and emergency crews responded shortly before 6 p.m. to the 400 block of West 18th Place for a vehicle-pedestrian crash. Officers took over CPR from bystanders who were already helping the 17-year-old pedestrian, and crews requested a medical helicopter because of the injuries.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the State Medical Examiner’s Office, despite lifesaving efforts, police said.
The driver was a 15-year-old from Ankeny, according to a crash report.
The Iowa State Patrol has taken over the investigation. Police are withholding the juveniles’ identities because of their ages and out of respect for their families.
