ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The teenager killed in a car crash Saturday night in Albuquerque has been identified by her family.
Fifteen-year-old Keyarah Chavez was a passenger in a Ford Mustang that sped through a red light and smashed into a pickup truck at Coors Boulevard and Bridge Boulevard. Keyarah died in the crash.
In a GoFundMe page started by Keyarah’s mother, Davona Chavez, she remembered her daughter and said she “had her whole life ahead of her.”
“Our lives have been changed forever and the pain of losing my child this way is something no parent should ever have to face,” Davona said. “She was an A and B student, played flag football for Atrisco Heritage Academy, and was a happy, high-spirit little girl who had her whole life ahead of her. We are grieving deeply and trying to take things one moment at a time while carrying this unimaginable loss.”
Davona is raising $8,000 to help pay for Keyarah’s funeral services and support the family during this time. As of Monday at 1 p.m., they were about a third of the way there.
Meanwhile, the drivers of each vehicle sustained critical injuries in the crash. A 16-year-old girl in the Mustang with Keyarah also sustained life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
