The killer of Henry Nowak has been given permission to appeal his prison sentence.
Vickrum Digwa’s case will be heard at the Court of Appeal on 5th November.In June he was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years imprisonment for murdering Henry Nowak.
The 18 year-old university student was fatally stabbed while walking home from a night out with friends in Southampton.

Digwa is appealing his sentence on the ground that it is too stringent. At the same time, the Attorney General is appealing that Digwa’s sentence is too lenient.Both arguments will be heard at the same time. Separately, Digwa is also seeking permission to appeal his conviction.

Rather than calling an ambulance or police, Digwa filmed Henry as he sat on the floor dying. In May, a jury rejected Digwa’s defence that he had been racially abused, which the prosecution successfully argued had been a lie.The Court of Appeal will now decide whether to increase or decrease Digwa’s sentence, or to uphold the sentence imposed by the judge after the trial.
