Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle that allegedly had green light in Center City Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A woman was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. at 19th and Lombard streets in Center City Philadelphia.

According to a witness, the woman was crossing the street west on Lombard when she was struck, adding that the driver had the green light.

Police say the woman was able to be removed after being trapped underneath the vehicle, but was later pronounced dead.

One man was sitting nearby on his break and he heard the impact. He called 911.

“I don’t think the guy was speeding,” said Darrien Wiley. “It was just like a sad accident. That’s all it was.”

He said there was a bus that might have been blocking her view of the oncoming vehicle.

“He had the right of way. He had the green light and she had the red light,” Wiley said. “She just ran across the street and got hit.”

Action News reached out to SEPTA, who said the woman was not on the bus, but that the driver did see the accident and called it in.

The incident remains under investigation.

The driver has not been charged.
