A 47-year-old man is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a Toronto Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) in the city’s Fashion District on Tuesday night, police say.

The incident happened near Wellington Street West and Portland Street.

Toronto police say they were called to that area just before 8:30 p.m. for reports of a peace officer who had been assaulted.

Investigators say a PEO had just completed serving a parking ticket on a vehicle when the driver approached them and assaulted the officer “numerous times.”

The suspect fled the scene, police say, but was arrested a short time later at another location nearby.

The officer was not injured.

Rohan Hutchinson, 47, of Toronto, has been charged with four counts of assault peace officer. The charges have not been tested in court.

He was scheduled to appear in bail court on Wednesday morning.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-6600 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
