CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – Lanes of Interstate 95 are closed in Clarendon County following a crash involving 40 vehicles Thursday morning.

Emergency crews with Clarendon County Fire Rescue are on the scene near mile marker 100 on I-95 southbound.

Officials confirmed that lanes in both directions are completely shut down as firefighters work to extinguish the blaze and clear wreckage; traffic is stopped and is currently backing up significantly from mile marker 97 to 102.

First responders said it is unknown how long the interstate will remain closed.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and prepare for major travel delays. Authorities at Santee Fire say there is at least one entrapment; no fatalities have been reported at this time.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
