Police believe that the stabbing of a man and a woman in separate locations in downtown Ottawa, appears to be random.

Officers responded to calls around 2:47 a.m., on Rideau Street, between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street.

In an updated release, officials said that a woman was stabbed on Rideau Street near Sussex Drive, where she went on an OC Transpo bus to get help.

Then, less than 10 minutes later, officers were called to Daly Avenue and Waller Street, for another stabbing. Police tended to the man’s life-threatening wounds before paramedics arrived.

A man was arrested at the second scene.
