The U.S. is bolstering its presence in the Middle East, dispatching roughly 9,000 troops, including over 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines. Here’s what to know.

Troop numbers: The most recent deployment to the Middle East, which comes as President Trump mulls his next move in the Iran war, would bring the U.S. presence in the region to more than 20,000 sailors and Marines, supported by hundreds of aircraft. [AP]

Iran deal: Trump has not ruled out further strikes against Iran if a peace deal with the U.S. is not reached. He also said he had considered whether Iran could have been involved with the FlyDubai incident, in which one pilot allegedly attacked another during a flight. [The Hill]
