Two students are seeking medical attention as a precaution after a bus carrying football players from Martensville High School rear-ended a semi on Thursday, according to Saskatchewan RCMP.

According to Prairie Spirit School Division, the crash happened at the Highway 12 off-ramp heading into Martensville at about 7:30 p.m. as the team was returning from a game in Saskatoon.

At the time of the crash, the bus was carrying 22 people, including students, a coach and the driver, the school division said. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene after the crash.

According to the Martensville Fire Department, some of the passengers reported minor injuries, and one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“Two students, with their parents, are seeking additional precautionary medical attention,” a school division spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

“The Prairie Spirit bus driver was assessed by medical staff at the site and cleared.”

After the crash, a second bus picked up the students and took them back to their school, the division said.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
