HARDEEVILLE, Sc. (WTOC) – The Jasper County Coroner’s Office said that Travis Brown, 18, was shot and killed in the area of Hardeeville High and Elementary Schools on Friday.
As WTOC reported on Friday night, the Hardeeville Police Department confirmed it was a homicide investigation when the shooting happened in the area of Red Dam Road and Bus Loop Road.
The Hardeeville Police Department said the incident was not connected to any school-sponsored event, school activity, or school operations.
A football game was being played between Hardeeville High School and Ridgeland Secondary Academy for Excellence when shots rang out.
Police on Friday night said an estimated 300 to 400 people were at the game and the school was placed on lockdown as officers responded. It was lifted just after midnight.
“Detectives with the Hardeeville Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” they wrote on Saturday night. “The Hardeeville Police Department would like to thank the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance during the response and ongoing investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact HPD or submit an anonymous tip as the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The coroner’s office said Brown was transported to Coastal Carolina Hospital and pronounced dead from his injuries.
“Hardeeville Police Department is leading the investigation, assisted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office,” they wrote. “The Jasper County Coroner’s Office extends our prayers to the family.”
“On Friday, October 2, 2026, officers with the Hardeeville Police Department responded to the area of Bus Loop Road and Red Dam Road in Hardeeville in reference to a shooting.
The incident was not connected to any school-sponsored event, school activity, or school operations.
During the incident, 18-year-old Travis Brown of Hardeeville, South Carolina, sustained a gunshot wound. Brown was transported to Coastal Carolina Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.
Detectives with the Hardeeville Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
