A homicide investigation is underway after two men suffered gunshot wounds and died in downtown Tacoma overnight Sunday, police announced.

About 12:30 a.m., Tacoma police were dispatched to 800 Pacific Avenue after reports of shots being fired in the area, according to a news release.

Police found two men who had suffered gunshot wounds, Officer Shelbie Boyd said Sunday.

In addition to the two men, police also learned that a female victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening, had been taken to an area hospital, Boyd said in an update about 10:50 a.m. Sunday.

Police officers and Tacoma Fire Department personnel took life-saving measures to help the men, but both later died at the scene, according to the release.

Detectives and crime scene technicians responded and are investigating, which includes talking to witnesses and trying to find video images of the incident, Boyd said.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call 911.
