Police say Kilworthy man was ‘in state of undress’ and was charged with impaired, possession of weapon, possession of cocaine and indecent exposure

In a bizarre early-morning incident, OPP officers came face-to-face with a naked driver that led to some serious charges for a Kilworthy man.

On Sept 29, around 6:20 a.m., OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint called in by a member of the public on Laclie Street near Fittons Road East.

Upon arriving, officers located the suspect vehicle and the driver in a “state of undress,” notes a media release issued Sunday morning. 

An impaired driving investigation was initiated by officers on scene. The driver was transported to the Orillia detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Lough, 42, of Kilworthy, is facing the following charges:


Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
Nudity and indecent exposure
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine

The passenger of the vehicle, Shelley Monteith, 60, also of Kilworthy, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine

Both accused parties were released from custody and are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date. Additionally, the driver has had their licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven days.

It was one of several incidents that kept police busy in recent days.

On Sept. 27, around 6:20 a.m., Orillia OPP officers were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 400 northbound near Horseshoe Valley Road in Oro-Medonte Township.

Upon arrival, officers entered into an impaired driving investigation, with one party being transported to the Orillia detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old man from Deep River is facing the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act:


Young driver — B.A.C. above zero
Novice driver — B.A.C above zero
Careless driving
Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

The accused had their licence suspended for seven days in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date.

On Sept. 29, just after 3 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Old Barrie Road West near Line 1 North in Oro-Medonte Township when they observed a vehicle travelling at a “notably high” rate of speed. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 133 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr Community Safety Zone.

A 48-year-old man from Barrie was charged with speeding in a community safety zone and stunt driving in a community safety zone.

As a result, their vehicle has been impounded for 14 days, their licence suspended for 30 days, and the driver is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date.

On Sept. 30, at 8 p.m., Orillia OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint called in by a member of the public on Highway 11 south near Coldwater Road. 

Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued southbound, where it was observed again and officers were able to safely stop the vehicle in Oro-Medonte Township.

Speaking with the driver, officers entered into an impaired driving investigation, and the driver was transported to the Orillia detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Samantha Burton, 37, of Emsdale, is facing the following charges:


Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
Possession of a Schedule I substance — opioid
Possession of a Schedule I substance — other drugs
Fail to stop for police

The accused was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date. Additionally, their driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for seven days.
