A woman who was found with severe injuries near a major road in Vaughan on Tuesday afternoon has been pronounced dead, according to York Regional Police.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Pine Valley Drive, near Major Mackenzie and Ballantyne Drives, just before 3 p.m.
Police said the woman is believed to have been struck by a vehicle approximately two days earlier on Oct. 4, between 8 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
The incident is being investigated as a deadly hit-and-run and detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage.
No suspect description was provided.
Authorities said roads in the area will be closed for an unknown amount of time for an investigation.
