A 32-year-old woman is dead, and her two-year-old son is in critical condition following a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a minivan in Flamborough on Tuesday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say officers from the Burlington detachment responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 5, just east of Hwy. 8, at approximately 7 a.m.

Investigators say a westbound pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old man from Millgrove, Ont., collided head-on with an eastbound minivan operated by a 35-year-old man from Cambridge, Ont.

OPP said a 32-year-old woman who was seated in the front passenger seat of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s two-year-old son who was riding in the rear of the minivan suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local children’s hospital for treatment.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The collision prompted an extensive investigation by the OPP. Police have not released the identities of those involved.

Investigators say charges are pending as they continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, stopped to assist at the scene, or has dashcam or other video footage is being asked to contact the OPP.
