The incoming Parti Québécois government could be forced to take the Oath of Allegiance to King Charles if a constitutional lawyer’s request for an injunction is granted.

Lawrence David, a professor at the University of Ottawa’s faculty of law and president and founder of the Public Interest Litigation Institute, filed the application in Quebec Superior Court on Tuesday — one day after Quebec’s provincial election.

“We know based on public statements that the oath will not be taken, at least by a majority of the newly-elected politicians,” David said in an interview Wednesday with The Gazette, referring to the minority PQ government.
