ALLERTON, Bronx (WABC) — A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Bronx mother who was killed after she and her infant daughter were pushed from a 15th-floor balcony, police said.

Angel Carrasco was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after police received information about his whereabouts, according to investigators.

Police said Carrasco’s close friend went to the 49th Precinct and told detectives where Carrasco was hiding. Carrasco was arrested by members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force.

On Thursday afternoon, he was walked out of the police precinct and seemingly smiled for the cameras.

Carrasco faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault.

He is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

Police allege Carrasco pushed his ex-girlfriend, Nathaly Ramirez, 23, from a balcony at the Allerville Arms apartment building in the Allerton section of the Bronx while she was holding their 8-month-old daughter early Tuesday morning. Ramirez died from her injuries.

The child survived and was reported in stable condition Thursday. Police said the girl had improved enough to be transferred by helicopter from Jacobi Hospital to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Glen Oaks for specialized treatment.

Investigators said surveillance video showed Carrasco leaving the apartment building after the incident. Detectives also recovered flowers inside Ramirez’s apartment and believe Carrasco had brought them in an attempt to reconcile after recent disputes.

Police said there was a documented history of domestic violence involving the couple. In January, Carrasco was charged with slapping Ramirez during a dispute involving his ex-girlfriend. Days later, he was charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into Ramirez’s apartment while looking for her.

The death of Ramirez has drawn renewed attention to domestic violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Her photo has now been added to a wall honoring victims of domestic violence.

“It’s a very painful moment today when we hung up Nathaly,” said Stephanie McGraw, founder and CEO of WARM, a domestic violence organization in Harlem that works to help victims.

McGraw said her organization would have helped Ramirez and her daughter if they had been contacted.

“We wouldn’t have asked any questions. We would have went in, we would have packed her up, we would have got her out and got her to safety,” McGraw said.
